- CITY OF BENSON IS CONTINUING TO ASSIST THE BENSON FOOD PANTRY WITH FOOD DELIVERY UNTIL JULY 1, 2020. PLEASE FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS BELOW (FOOD PANTRY INFORMATION) AND BE SURE TO CALL MONDAY AT 3 P.M. EACH WEEK IF YOU WOULD LIKE A FOOD PACKAGE DELIVERED TO YOUR DOOR.
Wednesday, April 8, was our first time offering this and it was a huge success with almost 40 deliveries to Benson, Mescal/J-6, Pomerene and St. David and we will be continuing this service until July 1, 2020.
To have food delivered you must call Benson Area Transit at 520-586-9406 each week by 3 p.m. the Monday before. Be prepared to give your name, address, date of birth, and number of people in your household, (this information is helpful for federal funding).
If you prefer to pick up your own food box, the Food Pantry opens Wednesday at 9 a.m., located at 1120 West 4th Street, Benson (off Easy Street), and they will be practicing safety measures. If you have questions, contact them direct at 520-200-5186 for other hours and more information.
Weekly Wednesday distribution of food changes but typically includes bread, canned goods, fresh fruit and vegetables, dairy products and meat. We do not have control over inventory, so this free service is dependent upon supplies and our manpower, and on a first-come, first-served basis so please get your order in as early as you can before each Monday at 3 p.m.
We will leave your box of items near your front door or on your porch, and knock before we leave, so you and our driver are both protected; our drivers will be unable to bring your groceries inside due to the COVID-19 and time constraints.
